12 Maoists kiiled in gadhchiroli district of Maharashtra. Area to be free of naxals says CM Shinde

Mumbai: Following the police shooting and killing of twelve ultras in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde declared on Thursday that his administration was committed to ridding the district of Maoist activities.

Shinde remarked, “The police action will be a decisive blow to the Naxalite activities in Gadchiroli district.” He thanked the Gadchiroli police for their successful operation.

“Development is our top goal, and we vehemently condemn violence. The administration’s goal is to eradicate all traces of Naxalism from the Gadchiroli district,” he added.

The CM emphasised that the police force’s extraordinary performance was key to strengthening the area’s security system. He assured residents that their sense of security would rise due to these efforts.

CM Shinde commended Gadchiroli, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, and the Superintendent of Police.

A special prize of Rs 51 lakh has been declared for the jawans involved in this operation by Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is also the Gadchiroli District Guardian Minister.

Based on information that 12–15 Maoists were camped close to Wandoli village, the 7C 60 Squad, led by the Sub Divisional Police Officer (Operations), initiated a special operation on July 17 at around 10 a.m. There was continuous shooting for about six hours during this operation. Twelve Maoists were successfully killed by Gadchiroli police, who also took seven automatic weapons—three AK-47s, two INSAS, a carbine, and an SLR—and confiscated them.
