Agra: The historical city of Agra is preparing to plant 54,56,000 trees on Saturday as part of a major initiative to increase the amount of green space.

The drive is part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ and ‘Ped Lagao Ped Bachao’ campaigns, which are dedicated to planting trees in the name of mothers and promoting tree conservation. Their combined goal is to plant 36.5 crore trees in Uttar Pradesh.

Bhanu Chandra Goswami, the district magistrate of Agra, declared that the Forest Department will plant 15,26,669 trees, and other departments will plant 39 lakh trees. The event will take place at UPSIDC, Site-C Sikandra, Agra, in the presence of the district tree plantation minister in charge, MPs, MLAs, and other public representatives.

Various tree species, such as Peepal, Banyan, jamun, Arjun, Semal, Mango, and Hari Shankari, will be planted.

To guarantee the trees’ growth and the community’s benefits, the minister in charge stressed the necessity of public involvement. This includes activities such as watering the plants, protecting them from grazing animals, and ensuring their survival by not damaging them. A detailed plan for plant care will be shared with the public.
