Dhaka/India: Due to the continuing student protests in Bangladesh, 1000 Indian students have left Bangladesh via regular flights and ports from Dhaka and Chittagong and returned to India.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has taken proactive steps to ensure a smooth return for Indian nationals. It has been in constant communication with land ports, immigration, civil aviation, and BSF officials, guaranteeing a seamless travel experience for the returning students.

Up to 778 Indian students used different land ports to return home, while about 200 used regular flights via the airports in Dhaka and Chittagong to return home.

In light of the recent events in Bangladesh, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and the Assistant High Commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Khulna have been aiding Indian nationals in their return home.

The MEA explained that steps were being taken by the High Commission and the Assistant High Commissions to enable safe transit to the border crossing locations along the India-Bangladesh International Border in cooperation with the local authorities.

“The High Commission of India in Dhaka and our Assistant High Commissions are in regular touch with more than 4000 students remaining in various universities in Bangladesh and are providing necessary assistance. Students from Nepal and Bhutan have also been assisted with their crossing into India on request,” the MEA detailed.

The High Commission and Assistant High Commissions have been working closely with Bangladeshi authorities to protect Indian nationals. Regular interactions and, when necessary, the provision of security escorts for vehicle transportation through specific land ports during the students’ return, are testament to this collaborative effort.

In addition, the High Commission in Dhaka is working with commercial airlines and Bangladesh’s civil aviation authorities to guarantee continuous flight services from Dhaka and Chittagong to India, enabling Indian citizens to return to their homeland safely.

The MEA has reiterated that Indian nationals in need of assistance can always reach out to the High Commission of India in Dhaka and the Assistant High Commission of India in Bangladesh. Emergency contact numbers are available for immediate assistance.
