New Delhi: The Monsoon Session of Parliament, a significant event in India’s political calendar, commences on Monday. The session’s high point will be the tabling of the Modi-led newly elected NDA’s Union Budget on July 23.

This session will consist of 19 Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha sittings until August 12.

On Monday, Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Finance Minister, will present the Economic Survey to Parliament, a comprehensive report on the country’s economic performance and future prospects prepared by the Ministry of Finance.

The Center will introduce six bills during the session, including the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak, 2024, which aims to provide provisions for the ease of doing business in India’s civil aviation sector by legally replacing the British-era Aircraft Act of 1934. Other bills include the Disaster Management (Amendment) Law Bill, the Boilers Bill, the Coffee (Promotion and Development) Bill, and the Rubber (Promotion and Development) Bill. The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir’s budget will also be presented during the meeting.

At an all-party meeting that the Center called on Sunday in advance of the budget session, the opposition was asked to collaborate and ensure that the Parliament’s budget session ran smoothly. The meeting aimed to foster a spirit of cooperation and set the tone for a productive session. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in the previous session, interruptions in both Houses were deemed inappropriate according to parliamentary traditions.

Following the end of the all-party meeting, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that both the government and the opposition bear responsibility for the smooth operation of the Parliament.

He assured that the government was not only prepared but also eager to discuss all issues. The Union Minister said: “Discussions will be held in the House according to the decisions taken in the BAC meetings of both Houses, in consultation with the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.” This openness to dialogue is a key aspect of the upcoming session.

The opposition, fully prepared and determined, is ready to confront the Centre on several topics, as stated during the all-party conference. These include the NEET paper leak case, the orders given by the governments of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand to restaurants and businesses, the purported abuse of probe agencies, and the selection of the deputy speaker of the Lok Sabha. This readiness underscores the intensity and importance of the upcoming session.
