Beijing (China): In a promising development, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba has informed his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi that his country is ready to engage in peace talks with Russia. This proactive stance is a significant step towards ending the war and establishing a ‘just and lasting peace.’

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning, in a crucial update, spoke to reporters on Wednesday about the senior Ukrainian diplomat’s visit to China. This visit, the first since the crisis began in February 2022, and the subsequent conversations with Wang, are key to the peace talks, according to RT.

Kuleba declared, “Ukraine is ready and willing to engage in dialogue and negotiations with Russia.” At the same time, Mao stated that the ongoing dispute between Moscow and Kiev was high on the agenda.

“Of course, the negotiations should be rational and substantive, aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace,” he added, as quoted by Mao.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning spoke to reporters on Wednesday, providing information about the senior Ukrainian diplomat’s visit to China, which is the first since the crisis began in February 2022, as well as his conversations with Wang, according to RT.
Mao stated that China ‘believes that the resolution of all conflicts must eventually return to the negotiation table.’ This belief, coupled with the signals of willingness to negotiate from both Russia and Ukraine, offers a glimmer of hope for a peaceful resolution.

Vladimir Zelensky, the leader of Ukraine, told Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Secretary of State of the Vatican, earlier this week that he wished to resolve the crisis “as soon as possible” and indicated that he was willing to talk to Russia. This was when Kuleba travelled to China. In contrast to his 2022 presidential proclamation, which ruled out any negotiations with the current Moscow government, he took a stand on his peace formula, which the Russian leadership has denounced as “delusional.”

Ukraine participated in the “peace summit” in Switzerland in June this year, which addressed several of Zelensky’s formula issues. Beijing and Moscow, on the other hand, declined invitations, claiming that Russia had to be included in the process. Later on, a number of individuals withdrew their signatures from the final document.
