Rains lash Mumbai

Mumbai: Heavy rains on Thursday disrupted regular operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). Officials said flights were rescheduled or cancelled, and the runway was suspended. The airport authorities, however, swiftly managed the situation by rescheduling flights and diverting them to nearby airports.

Due to unfavourable weather conditions, the CSMIA runway was promptly closed from 8.32 to 8.43 a.m. (11 minutes) and again from 10.36 to 10.55 a.m. (19 minutes), ensuring the safety of all operations.

The bad weather, which included heavy rain and 300–500 meter visibility, was the cause.

This resulted in the cancellation of one outgoing Air India flight, as well as at least five arrivals and five departing IndiGo planes, bringing the total number of affected flights to 11.

A minimum of ten further flights were rerouted to locations including Ahmedabad, Surat, Hyderabad, Indore, and Goa (MOPA); however, upon the weather improving later in the evening, all planes returned to Mumbai.
