Yangon: According to a disaster management official on Friday, over 1,30,000 people from over 33,000 households were impacted by floods in several regions and states of Myanmar in July.

Senior official Min Thein, in a statement to the Xinhua news agency, underscored the unprecedented scale of the disaster, which has been devastating the nation since early July, starting with Kachin state.

According to him, the Magway region is currently the most devastated, with approximately 53,000 people impacted by flooding.

He further detailed that the flooding had caused significant damage to over 110 houses, with over 90 of them being completely demolished, leaving many families homeless.

He claimed there was one reported death in the Sagaing region.

He also highlighted the Myanmar government’s swift response, providing flood victims with essential supplies such as cash, rice, and canned fish worth about 390 million kyats, or roughly $120,000.
