Sao Paulo: Brazilian regional airline Voepass confirmed in a statement that all 61 passengers on board perished in Friday’s jet crash near Sao Paulo.

The plane crashed in the state of Sao Paulo near Vinhedo, apparently falling into a residential neighbourhood. According to officials, one residence in the nearby condominium complex was damaged. None of the occupants were harmed, though.

According to the BBC, the little twin-engine aircraft took off from Cascavel in the state of Parana in southern Brazil and was travelling to the international airport in Sao Paulo.

The airline eventually revised the death toll from what was initially thought to be 62 individuals on board the downed aircraft to 61.

“The company regrets to inform that all 61 people on board Flight 2283 died at the scene,” Voepass said in a statement.

According to the airline, four crew members and 57 passengers were on board.

“At this time, Voepass Linhas Aereas prioritises providing unrestricted assistance to the families of the victims and effectively collaborating with the authorities to investigate the causes of the accident,” it added.

The manufacturer of the downed aircraft, ATR, has stated that its experts are totally committed to helping with the crash inquiry.
