Kolkata: The culprit in the murder of a female doctor is a “criminal of the highest order,” according to Kolkata Police, who made this announcement on Saturday.

“For the investigating officials, the culprit is a criminal of the highest order,” City Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal told media persons who questioned him about the professional identity of the accused.

The accused, Sanjay Ray, was granted free admission to the hospital and is a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police.

According to Goyal, there is still more information about the accused that cannot be disclosed because the inquiry is ongoing, and the accused’s professional identification is not the primary focus of the investigators.

In addition, City Police Murli Dhar, the Joint Commissioner (Crime) who accompanied the Commissioner, asked the media not to ask any questions that would interfere with the Special Inquiry Team’s investigation.

According to sources, the victim’s doctor became the prey while she was asleep in the lecture hall, according to the preliminary inquiry.

“Suspicious movements of the arrested individual within the hospital premises around 3.30 am and 4 am on Friday have been traced in the CCTV footage,” the sources said.

In addition to indicating that this is a case of rape and murder, the preliminary autopsy report on the victim’s body also revealed that the victim had been strangled to guarantee her death following the rape.

A female physician working at the government-run R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital was discovered deceased on Friday under suspicious circumstances.

She was employed by the hospital as house staff in the chest medicine section and was a second-year postgraduate medical student.

At approximately midday, hospital personnel found the deceased on the fourth level of the hospital’s emergency facility.

Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal chief minister, has further stated that her government is ready for any form of central agency investigation into the matter.

“We do not have anything to hide in this case. The person arrested in the matter will be produced at a fast-track court. We will seek capital punishment for the guilty. But if the agitating students want a probe by another agency, we are not against it. If there is a CBI probe, we have no problem since we do not have anything to hide,” the Chief Minister said.
