New Delhi: On Wednesday, Delhi International Airport Limited {DIAL) informed that the newly enlarged Terminal 1 will open for business on August 17. The Delhi Airport is operated and managed by DIAL, a consortium of GMR Airport Infrastructure.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the new terminal on March 10th. It was constructed as a part of DIAL’s Phase 3A expansion project.

DIAL has collaborated with IndiGo and SpiceJet to make the required arrangements for transferring flight operations from T2 and T3 to T1. The plan called for SpiceJet to move its 13 flights to Terminal 1 on August 17 and for IndiGo to return its 34 flights from T2 and T3 to T1 on September 2.

According to airport officials, only the new facility will open for business on August 17; the older T-1 building is undergoing repairs.

Due to excessive rain on June 28, a portion of the metal roof covering Terminal 1 fell, leaving one person dead and eight others injured. Following the incident, flight operations for IndiGo and SpiceJet, which mostly used Terminal 1, were moved to Terminals 2 and 3.

“Delhi Airport is glad to announce the operationalisation of new Terminal 1 from August 17. The state-of-the-art Terminal 1 will significantly boost our capacity, easing pressure on Terminals 2 and 3. Passengers can expect a smoother travel experience with improved amenities and advanced technology,” said DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar.

Anyone travelling on SpiceJet flights must go through Gate A, located on the ground floor. IndiGo travellers will have to go through Gates 5 and 6 on the first floor of the new terminal.

For the convenience of passengers on IndiGo and SpiceJet, DIAL has placed signage at key areas, including on-road markings, indicating the way to the departures. Additionally, DIAL will send out RAXA security to assist travellers and point them toward SpiceJet and IndiGo departures.

Passengers would have to exit the facility via the same arrival route upon arrival.

DIAL has implemented ‘Queue-Buster: Mobile Check-in Service’ in the new terminal to make travelling more accessible for customers. This service will assist travellers in avoiding lengthy lines at the check-in desks.

Other amenities include Aerobridges, Common Usage Self-Service (CUSS), Individual Carrier System (ICS), Automated Tray Retrieval System (ATRS), and Self-Baggage Drop (SBD) kiosks.

Following a sharp increase in Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) and passenger foot traffic at Delhi Airport, the extension work was completed in accordance with the Master Plan 2016.
