Kolkata: In less than a week after the alleged rape and murder of a trainee woman doctor in a state-run hospital in Kolkata, on Thursday, another young woman was killed in Bengal. The body of a 22-year-old woman with a slit in her throat was discovered in Shaktigarh, in the East Burdwan district of West Bengal.

Tension broke out in the neighbourhood after the victim’s alleged murder was reported. She has been identified as Priyanka Hansda.

The police registered the case as an unnatural death to begin their inquiry. Her remains have been sent for autopsy.

The deceased woman used to work at a retail mall in Bengaluru, and on August 12, her relatives told the police that she had come home for vacation.

They also told the police that she had left her house late on Wednesday night while chatting on her phone. She went missing after that, and her body—with a slit in her throat—was eventually found a kilometre from her home in a remote area.

According to district police officials, a comprehensive investigation has commenced to identify the individuals she was last seen chatting on her cellphone as she left her home.

The family members of the deceased told media persons that it was a case of murder. They said that she went out of the house after receiving a call from someone, and her body was found with a throat slit.

They also said that after she had not returned home for quite some time, they tried to contact her on her mobile, but she did not pick up their calls.

District police sources also said that, from the statements recorded in the case, it appears that the victim left her residence upon receiving a call from someone whom she knew very well.
