The earthquakes were felt throughout the Valley, and people ran out of their homes in most places. Anxious callers kept the phone lines busy, asking relatives and friends for their welfare.

Provincial authorities have said that there have been no reports of loss of life or damage to property anywhere in the Valley so far.

Due to its seismological location in an earthquake-prone region, Kashmir Valley is always at risk of such natural occurrences.

On October 8, 2005, an earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale killed over 80,000 people across the line of control in Kashmir.
