Mumbai: Sidharth Malhotra, the Bollywood heartthrob who recently graced the screens in the action-thriller film Yodha, has not just a casual interest, but a deep-seated love for cricket. This was evident on National Sports Day when he shared his passion with the world through photos and videos of himself playing cricket on Instagram.

The video was shot during the production of his family drama film, Kapoor & Sons. It shows him raving about his team winning every single game on the film’s sets during the breaks. His co-star from Kapoor & Sons, Fawad Khan, simply laughed it off.

The photographs show him and his crew playing cricket on a mountain pass.

He wrote in the caption, “From Delhi streets to film sets, my love for cricket remains unchanged! Sports were always a big part of my life – basketball, club-level rugby, football, and, of course, gully cricket. They helped shape me into who I am today and built my physical and mental strength. Now, shoot breaks are just an excuse for a quick cricket fix! #NationalSportsDay #Throwback”.

Cricket is not just a sport in India, it’s a national obsession. The fervour for cricket is so intense that it becomes an integral part of people’s daily lives. This deep-rooted love for the game is the reason behind India’s stellar performances in cricket tournaments, contrasting with the struggle for medals in other sports like the Olympics.

Recently, team India clinched the ICC T20 World Cup in June when it defeated South Africa in the finals, bringing its fourth World Cup win after 1983, 2007, and 2011. The team’s victory was a result of their exceptional performance throughout the tournament, with standout performances from players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Previously, Team India performed admirably in the Cricket World Cup last year. However, the Australians dashed the nation’s hope by defeating India in the final, ending the latter’s unbroken streak throughout the tournament.
