Imphal: Three people, including a 23-year-old woman, were critically injured after suspected Kuki militants launched fresh drone attacks on Senjam Chirang in Manipur’s Imphal West district on Monday, where two people, including a woman, were killed, ten others injured, and many abandoned houses at Koutruk and neighbouring Kadangband villages were set ablaze on Sunday, according to officials.

On Monday, Kuki militants damaged three security force bunkers in the Imphal East area through separate bombs.

Police reported that Kuki insurgents used drones to drop heavy bombs, gravely injuring Watham Sanatombi Devi and two others. All of the injured were taken to Imphal Hospital, where physicians performed emergency surgery on the woman.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has rushed to the area.

Police also reported that armed militants conducted a vicious attack on Sinam village in Imphal East. The militants used drones to launch heavy bombs on security installations, destroying three bunkers and causing property damage.

According to reports, suspected militants stole three weapons from a Manipur Armed Police post in Meikhang under the Sagolmang police station in Kangpokpi district: an Insas LMG, an AK 47, and an SLR. However, authorities have yet to confirm the event.

Monday’s attack comes after an assault on Sunday in Imphal West’s Koutruk, Kadangband, and Singda villages that killed two people, including a 32-year-old woman, and injured ten others, including the woman’s 8-year-old daughter. Two security personnel, as well as a local TV journalist reporting the attack, were also hurt.

A Manipur Police statement on Monday night said that there was mobilisation of armed miscreants in many places which had seen intense conflict in the past. After Sunday’s militant attack, an alert was sounded, and all forces, including the Central forces in their respective districts, have been conducting joint operations. All forces in all 16 districts of the state are on high alert for 24 hours, the statement said. Joint operations were conducted in border areas between Churachandpur and Kakching districts, Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts, Kangpokpi and Imphal West districts, Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts, and Kakching and Tegnoupal districts.
