Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials investigating the heinous rape and murder of a woman doctor at the R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital discovered anomalies in Sanjay Roy, the arrested civil volunteer,’s claims during the polygraph test.
According to sources, officials are investigating the hidden links between the contradicting statements given during the polygraph test.
The first inconsistency involves Roy’s level of familiarity with Sandip Ghosh, the former and controversial principal of R.G. Kar.
According to sources, Roy maintained during both the standard interrogation and the polygraph test that he was not directly acquainted with Ghosh and had only seen him at a college programme.
Ghosh is currently in jail as part of the CBI’s parallel investigation into financial irregularities. Both probes are court-directed and monitored.
However, sources said that many others in the hospital, in their answers during questioning, claimed that one of the reasons Roy was free to roam anywhere within the hospital at any time was Ghosh’s patronage.
Some reports even confirmed that the two had a one-on-one interaction.
The second discrepancy involves Roy’s strong relationship with one of Kolkata Police’s assistant sub-inspectors. According to sources, Roy stated during interrogation and polygraph tests that the assistant sub-inspector was only a professional acquaintance. However, allegations made by certain inhabitants of the city police barracks in North Kolkata, where Roy used to live, contradict this.
According to the source, the investigating officials must determine whether Roy was granted permission to stay at the police barracks due to the assistant sub-inspector’s political influence. Contractual civic volunteers are not permitted to reside at the police barracks, reserved only for regular and on-duty lower-rank police officers.
According to sources, investigators are looking into whether Roy enjoyed the patronage of any other powerful individual.
