New Delhi: The BJP has called for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s immediate resignation and arrest as a matter of utmost urgency, citing the pressing Supreme Court proceedings on the RG Kar Medical College case.

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia, speaking to the media at the party headquarters, strongly condemned CM Mamata Banerjee for her alleged failure to uphold democratic values and her suspected role in a serious cover-up of the case.

During the Supreme Court hearing, Bhatia alleged that the bench questioned whether CM Banerjee should retain her position.

He argued that Mamata Banerjee should step down from her position as chief minister for a fair and just investigation.

The BJP further asked Mamata Banerjee to take a polygraph test to back up her statements and accused her of delaying justice by allegedly protecting criminals and deleting evidence.

Bhatia described the Supreme Court hearing on the RG Kar Medical College case, which lasted approximately two hours, as a disgrace to Indian democracy.

He accused Mamata Banerjee of siding with the wrongdoers rather than helping the victims.

Bhatia further criticised West Bengal’s Chief Minister for failing to support the victim’s family and demanded the resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal.

The BJP spokesperson also asked to release phone records between CM Banerjee, Goyal, and Dr Sandeep Ghosh, former Principal of RG Kar Medical College.

Furthermore, Bhatia criticised the delay in filing the FIR, the rushed post-mortem, and the minimal CCTV footage given.

He voiced discontent with the overall handling of the matter and hinted at internal dissent inside the Trinamool Congress, implying that the party may split over CM Banerjee’s conduct.

In response to questions regarding Jawhar Sarkar’s resignation, Bhatia expressed broad displeasure among West Bengal residents and Trinamool leaders, implying that the scandal could lead to additional dissent inside the party.
