Uniondale, New York: A tight security cordon has been set up around the Nassau Coliseum, a multi-purpose indoor venue in Uniondale, New York, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be speaking at an Indian diaspora gathering in a couple of hours.
Federal, state, and municipal law enforcement have been mobilised to provide complete security for the Prime Minister.
The Transportation Security Administration, which examines travellers at airports, is performing a similar operation here. It directs visitors through metal detectors, requires them to remove phones and metal objects, and inspects their luggage.
Secret Service operatives sometimes use hand-held wands to conduct a secondary check.
The Coliseum’s perimeter is fenced in, and most entry points have been sealed off, with Nassau County Police standing guard.
Inside, police and Secret Service agents are stationed at various spots. Several mounted police officers monitor the crowds, and bomb-sniffing dogs patrol both inside and outside.

Several hundred event volunteers guide guests through the arena’s maze.
The journalists had to drop off their cameras and other equipment the day before to be sanitised, and those who hadn’t were not allowed to bring it in on Sunday.
Extremist groups may pose a threat, so security has been increased.
Some Sikh, Islamic, and other political organisations have stated that they want to hold protests. However, none are permitted at or near the Coliseum.
If they show up, they will be relocated far from the venue.
The strong security comes amid increased scrutiny of the safety precautions for leaders in the aftermath of an attack on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and another that was narrowly averted.
