Mumbai: The unexpected news that actress-politician Urmila Matondkar, known for her iconic roles in films such as Rangeela, Satya, Bhoot, and others, is filing for divorce from her husband, Mohsin Akhtar Mir, after eight years of marriage has sparked a wave of speculation. The reason behind this decision, currently a mystery, is the subject of intense discussion on the Internet.

The news surprised many, especially since the couple appeared much in love, sharing affectionate pictures about themselves on social media and showing no traces of marital discord.

However, now that the news is out, one potential factor (being speculated) that usually contributes to such a decision is the significant age gap between the wife and husband. The actress, who is ten years older than her husband, married relatively late in life, in her 40s. Such substantial age differences in marriages often lead to complex dynamics and challenges.

While this may not be the case with Urmila, in many instances, marriages at a later stage in life can bring about issues, particularly when it comes to starting a family. The pressure from the husband’s family for children can often strain the relationship.

Another reason being speculated is the tiff over finances that strained their relationship. A user on the content aggregation platform Reddit wrote that Mohsin and her family were forcing the actress to sell off her property for their business till she had nothing.

According to media reports, the divorce is not mutual, with Urmila filing for it four months ago.

Mohsin is a businessman and model from Kashmir and has also worked in films such as ‘Luck By Chance’, ‘BA Pass’ and ‘Mumbai Mast Kallander’. Mohsin and Urmila first crossed paths during the wedding of celebrated fashion designer Manish Malhotra’s niece in 2014. It was said to be love at first sight for Mohsin. Manish was among the few public figures at their intimate nuptials when the duo tied the knot in 2016. Urmila and Mohsin had visited Amritsar’s Golden Temple, followed by a Nikah.
