Los Angeles: A significant and unprecedented late-season heatwave is scorching areas of the United States, with record-breaking temperatures projected to continue into the weekend.

“The US National Weather Service (NWS) said on Friday that more than 70 record high temperatures are set to fall—mainly in the southwestern US—today through the weekend.

The heat wave continues over parts of California and the Desert Southwest, Xinhua news agency reported, quoting NWS.

Forecasters predict that the searing late-season heat wave will pose significant and potentially dangerous heat risks across parts of the United States. Earlier this week, heat alerts were issued for around 39 million people in the region.

The NWS issued high heat alerts for areas surrounding large cities such as Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
