Damascus: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi stated here that Iran supports a cease-fire in Gaza and Lebanon and warned Israel that any strikes will be met proportionately and, if necessary, with stronger force.

In a press conference on Saturday, Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to standing by the “resistance” against Israel, noting that the country will continue to aid and coordinate with Syria to support displaced Lebanese refugees, according to Xinhua.

“There are two urgent issues on our agenda: addressing the needs of Lebanese refugees and securing a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon,” Araghchi said. He noted that Iran has already supplied humanitarian aid to Lebanese refugees in Syria, and additional supplies were on the way.

On the possibility of an Israeli attack on Iran, Araghchi warned, “Our response to any Israeli strike will be proportional, and even stronger if necessary. We have demonstrated this in the past, and they are welcome to test our resolve again.”

Araghchi stated that regional and international attempts for a ceasefire are now being discussed but declined to provide specifics. He emphasised that any cease-fire agreement must be acceptable to both Palestinians and Lebanese.

When asked about Iran’s connection with Syria, Araghchi stressed the two countries’ long-standing strategic partnership and stated that Iran’s support for Syria will continue under whatever conditions.

During the visit, the Iranian foreign minister met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi Jalali to discuss collaboration in securing humanitarian aid for Lebanese families fleeing Israel’s military assault on Lebanon.
