CM wants Metro link for Navi Mumbai and Mumbai Airport

Earlier this week, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis discussed the plan of a Metro rail connecting the International Airport with the proposed Navi Mumbai Airport with officials from City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) at his Mantralaya office. Remarks an official who did not wish to be named from the Chief Minister’s Office, “The Chief Minister had a detailed discussion along with his team. He is taking keen interest in the Metro rail connectivity within Mumbai and in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.”

 It should be noted that, at present, the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro line three corridor will be implemented along with the Metro line two of Dahisar-Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd, which will connect the airport to Mankhurd and, in order to improve the connectivity further, the Metro line between Mankhurd and Navi Mumbai International Airport, which is expected to be ready by 2020, is being planned. In order to speed up the implementation of Metro line 3, the government departments are expected to hand over the land which is in their possession to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) in a week’s time.

Remarks transport expert Ashok Datar, “Connecting Navi Mumbai airport and Mumbai International airport will be necessary in the future, as it will help the passengers to commute smoothly. However this should be planned from the beginning.” According to sources other important projects discussed in the meeting include the two other Metro corridors between Dahisar and Andheri (east), and Dahisar and DN Nagar.
