HIV/AIDS bill to be introduced while surrogacy bill already moved in the Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Nov 22: The HIV/AIDS (Prevention and Control) bill is all set to be introduced in the Rajya Sabha even as the opposition is making daily work in both the houses next to impossible in the ongoing winter sessions. The bill seeks to protect the interest of the HIV community in the country by she idling them from discrimination at work place and in their personal spaces as well. 

The bill was approved by the Cabinet last month, it seeks to bring legal accountability to prohibit discrimination against the HIV community and promote the idea of equality for all while making accessibility to healthcare easier and getting jobs without discrimination. The bill failed to be introduced in the upper house of the Parliament  due to unrelenting protests by the opoosition. there are approximately 21 lakh HIV AIDS inflicted people in the country and only 25% of these patients are getting the treatment for the ailment as against 41$ people globally who have access to the anti vetrovial treatment. 2015 saw 67,600 HIV AIDS related deaths in India. 

The Health Minister meanwhile had better luck introducing the Surrogacy regulation bill in the Lok Sabha on Monday despite repeated protest calls from the opposition. The bill aims at putting a ban on commercial surrogacy pregnancies in the country to protect women from exploitation along with ensuring the rights of the child born through the surrogacy process. 

Once it becomes a law there will a complete ban on the medical practise and will be reserved for couples who cannot conceive through the natural process. The bill will ensure that only Indian citizens in need of a baby can apply for surrogacy barring NRIs, PIOs, homosexuals, single parents and live in couples. The ban will also be applicable to parents who already have children.
