Modi effect: NDA seen gaining 197 seats: Poll

An opinion poll has projected a pro-Modi sweep for the NDA if the polls are held in as per schedule in May next.  A survey by the Week magazine has predicted that the NDA will win in 197 seats, while the UPA will be very close to with 184 seats and others will get 162 seats in the Lok Sabha polls next year.As per the survey, whose sample size was not given, UPA's vote share will come down to 31.7 per cent from 37.2  in 2009 polls while NDA's vote share will go up from 23.3 to 26.7 percent in the general election next year.The vote share of other parties which was 39.5 percent in 2009 will go up to 41.6 per cent.
 
The survey said 32 percent people felt Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi will be the best prime minister followed by Manmohan Singh (15 percent) and Rahul Gandhi (13 percent).Eight per cent people opined that Sonia Gandhi would be the best prime minister while 5 per cent each supported Mayawati and LK Advani for the top job followed by Mulayam Singh Yadav (4 percent), Nitish Kumar and Mamata Banerjee (3 percent each).On who will be the best person for the post of prime minister among the BJP, the survey said 56 percent supported Modi while Advani got support of 15 percent followed by Sushma Swaraj (10 percent), and Rajnath Singh (4 percent).Among the Congress leaders, 39 percent of those surveyed felt Rahul Gandhi will be best person for the top job, 25 percent supported Manmohan, 18 percent supported Sonia, 5 percent supported P Chidambaram and 3 percent supported AK Antony.
 
Asked if Third Front leads the government then who will best suited for the job, 19 per cent supported Nitish Kumar while Mayawati and Mamata Banerjee got support of 14 percent of those surveyed.As many as 60 percent of those surveyed said political parties and alliances should announce their PM candidate well in advance while 26 per cent thought otherwise.A larger 74 percent respondents felt elections should be held in May  as per schedule while 19 percent said polls should be held early.Asked about the crucial issues, 21 percent saiduplift of the poor while 17 percent were of the view that providing basic facilities like water, electricity and roads will be the main issue. For 13 per cent price rise was the key issue.
