Ms Valsa Nair Singh (IAS) who belongs to the 1991 batch has enhanced the reputation of each and every post she has been appointed with. In 1998, when she was the CEO of Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra which is a naxalite zone, she handled the situation with great sensitivity, being the lone women IAS officer; she showed great courage in tackling issues over there. During her recent stint in the environment department when she took over in 2009, she has handled her portfolio extremely well while dealing with  eco sensitive issues like pollution, mangroves and also the green cover of Mumbai. In her new posting as Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA and also additional charge as Project Director, Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP),she will be faced with a big  challenge of completing the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar(VAG) Metro first line in time. And also the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro line for which the government of India has given the go ahead.
 
Ms. Valsa Nair Singh (IAS), born and brought up in Kerala is graduate in English Literature, holds a post graduate degree in History, post graduate in Journalism and Public Relations; Masters in Public Policy and Governance, from the Maxwell School of Public Policy, University of Syracuse, New York. Few of her significant posts were as Additional Commissioner, Land Revenue Management and District Administration and Collector of Mumbai City. She has worked in various sectors in the States of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra handling crucial portfolios. She has also been the Chairperson, Maharashtra State Coastal Zone Management Authority and Member Secretary, State Environment Impact Assessment Authority.
