Acting on the United Progressive Alliance's decision to carve out a separate state of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh, the central home ministry is preparing a note for passing a resolution and it is expected to be placed before the cabinet in 20 days.

Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde told reporters Monday that the ministry was preparing to pass a resolution in the cabinet.

He said the note will be sent to the law ministry for legal vetting and hoped that it will be presented before the cabinet within 20 days.

The cabinet is expected to approve a resolution on Telangana and set up a Group of Ministers (GoM) to go in detail into the issues concerning bifurcation of the state.

The UPA had earlier given its nod for creation of a separate state of Telangana.
