YCMOU gets new VC

The Governor of Maharashtra K. Sankaranarayanan in his capacity as the Chancellor of Universities in the State has appointed Dr Manikrao Madhavrao Salunkhe as the new Vice Chancellor of the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik.

The Governor selected Dr Salunkhe after interviewing him on August18, after shortlisting the candidates recommended to him by the Search Committee headed by Justice J N Patel, retired Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, for the post of Vice Chancellor of YCMOU.

The appointment was necessitated following the demise of Vice Chancellor of YCMOU Dr R. Krishnakumar on 21st January 2014 while still in office.

Dr Arun Jamkar, Vice Chancellor of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences was holding the additional charge of the post.

Dr Manikrao Salunkhe has been appointed as Vice Chancellor for a term of five years with effect from the date he assumes the charge of office of the Vice Chancellor or till he attains the age of sixty five years, whichever is earlier.

Dr Manikrao Salunkhe holds MSc. and Ph.D in Chemistry from Shivaji University, Kolhapur. 

Dr Salunkhe has served as the Vice Chancellor of the Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Subsequently, he completed his 5- year term as the founder Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Rajasthan. Thereafter he served as the Honorary Advisor at the Central University of Jammu.  Dr Salunkhe has also served as the Director of Institute of Science, Mumbai.

He has vast experience in the field of higher education, research and administration.
