ME News Bureau: Sanjay Leela Bhansali's epic period drama film Padmavati will finally release on January 25, 2018 after being renamed as Padmavat.

However, some issues still persist with the Shri Rajput Karni Sena, which spearheaded the agitation against the movie as they are yet not pacified and are still protesting against its release by demanding a total ban on the film as they believe it distorts historical facts and hurts the community’s sentiments.

Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje Scindia has refused to lift the ban in the state for the film’s release in view of respecting the sentiments of the people of Rajasthan as well.

The fim that stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji was approved by the Central Board of Film Certification and was given a U/A certificate after the makers were asked to add a disclaimer which states that the film in no manner subscribes to the practice of Sati or seeks to glorify it.

Other changes reportedly include two disclaimers, one at the beginning of the film and the other after the interval as well as changes in the Ghoomar song featuring Padukone and removal of misleading references to historical places.

Furthermore, a screening was held for a special bench of historians who suggested five modifications including a change in the title from Padmavati to Padmavat as Bhansali’s film is said to be inspired by Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s epic poem by the same name.
