Mumbai Pattolam – an exclusive Kerala Music Festival, which is conducted as an ode to Sri. Njeralathu Rama Pothuval, who propagated Sopana Sangeetham amongst the common man, has a strong historical connection too.

In the year 1985, ever since in the history of Kerala, a temple-centric art – Sopana Sangeetham and its artist – Njeralathu Rama Pothuval received the Kendra Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award. In 1986, he received the awards from the hands of the former President of India, Sri Venkataraman at the prestigious Shanmukhananda Hall in Mumbai.
