Media Eye News Bureau: A rare first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone worth GBP 40,000 has been stolen during a burglary of a Thetford bookshop.

Only 500 copies were published of this book where the author was listed as Joanne Rowling rather than JK Rowling and were published for the first printing in 1997 and only 300 of these copies went to libraries.

Other books taken from the store in Thetford include a set of four Winnie the Pooh first editions, a signed first edition of Terry Pratchett’s Colour of Magic, a hardcover first edition of The Hobbit from 1937, The Great Gatsby edition from 1925 in a dark blue custom case, a paperback copy of Brief History of Time from 1983 with a thumbprint signature by Stephen Hawking, two first editions of the Gunslinger by Stephen King and a sketchbook from the 1820s-1840s by an unknown artist including pencil and water colour sketches.
