Media Eye News Bureau: A suspected burning lamp had caused a major fire at the Thiruvilwamala in Thrissur district, Kerala, damaging the shrine.

There were no report of casualties.

Fire department sources said at least eight fire tenders rushed to the spot and douzed the blame at 11.30 pm, yesterday night.

“The extent of damage can be determined only in the morning.

“A lot of damage had been done to the temple. Initial reports suggest that the Chuttambalam part of the temple was partially gutted in the fire”, police said.

The temple is situated in the middle of Thiruvilwamala village with Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and his brother Lakshmana are the main deities at the temple.
