Media Eye News Bureau: The epic World War II drama film, Dunkirk, has been nominated for eight Oscars and is up for the Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Production Design, Best Original Score and Best Picture Award as well. Other films such as Call Me By Your Name and Darkest Hour as well as The Shape of Water are among other nominees as well.

Dunkirk, starring Sir Mark Rylance, Tom Hardy, Harry Styles and Cillian Murphy depicted largest evacuations in British military history where 330,000 allied troops were evacuated from the beaches of Dunkirk in 1940 after being trapped by German forces.

A large amount of the film was shot in Weymouth harbour and is directed by Christopher Nolan. The film earned rave reviews and was described as ‘heroically British’ and Nolan’s ‘best film so far’. It was further praised for its storytelling that involved sparse dialogue and bleak settings. It has also been nominated for eight BAFTA awards as well.
