Instagram is the new social media trend that has created a niche for itself in the last 2-3 years and it is not just a social platform for people to post only their selfies or family pictures. It has started to gain momentum as a platform to garner business as well as become an outlet for creatives to elevate their brand or themselves in the most aesthetic ways. Here are tips to amp up your aesthetics for your Instagram feeds.

  • What is your aesthetic?

Not to be mixed up with a theme as a theme is basically something that pertains to categories such as food, travel, lifestyle etc. Whereas an aesthetic is the mood of the content that is set by you and which reflects your or your brand’s vibe. It showcases your creativity through a variety of pictures that share the same feeling be it colourful, monochrome or even neutral which makes your feed more interesting to your followers as it shows imagination and it makes for a pleasing visual as well.

  • Filters

Filters are essential. But what is much more notable is not overdoing it. However that does not mean using just a single filter but don’t use too many so that it’s easier to stick to a similar colour scheme in order to have a cohesive aesthetic on your feed and that although all your pictures do not interlink with each other, it should look like they are all a part of the same photo album.

  • Let there be Light

It cannot be stressed enough that lighting is the most important part of a photograph. In order to get some of the best pictures, try taking them in natural light as the pictures look more effortless yet more put together because when you take a picture at night because it doesn’t give the same effect as natural light.

  • Watch your Back

Well, not literally. What we mean is, Backgrounds are key for making sure that your image is crisp and visually pleasing. A cluttered background is distracting and takes the focus off of you or the product that you’re featuring on your page. So make sure that your background isn’t too busy and fits well with your overall aesthetic.

  • Straighten ‘Em Out

An often neglected area, before posting a picture on your feed make sure to straighten the pictures especially when you take pictures of buildings of shelves as the unevenness may result into a bad picture.

  • Quality over Quantity

Don’t post a picture just because you have to. Only post high quality pictures, plan your style of feed and edit out the pictures accordingly. Let’s say that the overall vibe of your feed is monochromatic but you happen to visit a beach and you wish to put up the true to life clicks, don’t fret about ruining your aesthetic, instead work around the blocks by posting 3, 6 or 9 pictures of those before reverting back to your old aesthetic back again.

  • Why So Serious?

At the end of the day though don’t stress much as it is only Instagram and messing up your aesthetic on your feed isn’t the end of the world. Don’t be discouraged if you do not have the number of followers or likes that you aimed for. Practice makes perfect. So if you lose your vibe, don’t worry you’ll find it or even something better than it again.
