PM to lay foundation ston

Media Eye News Bureau: PM Narendra Modi is all set to the foundation stone for the Rs 16,700-crore Navi Mumbai airport.

The airport is being built by Cidco along with the GVK Group that runs the Mumbai international airport as well. It is assessed to take off at a cost of over Rs 16,700 crore.

The new airport in Navi Mumbai is said to have two parallel runways and will handle close to 80 flights an hour as the first flight is set to take off in 2019.  The new airport will also have two entrances and exits.

The first phase comprising of one runway and the terminal building to handle up to 10 million passengers is likely to be completed by the end of 2019. The second phase is said to be completed by 2022 while the third phase will be completed by 2027 and at the completion of the fourth phase will happen by 2031.
