TDP to part ways with NDA

With the Centre thwarting hopes of the Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) long call for a special category status for Andhra Pradesh, the party is reportedly likely to pull out of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government.

TDP President and Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu is set to break ties with his long standing partner after TDP MLAs and MLCs urged the CM to take a stand on their future affairs with the centre.

The separation process is said to begin with the resignation of two ministers – Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Y S Chowdhary- from the cabinet which will happen most likely on March 10. At the TDP's legislative party meeting in Vijayawada on Tuesday, all the 125 MLAs and 34 MLCs unanimously called for an end to the alliance.

The TDP has for long been requesting for a special category status for their state and have raised their voice in the parliament houses in the past but haven't got any assurance from the central government on their demands for the same. The centre, however, stated regarding the Andhra special status issue that it won't be possible to bow down for such demands.
