TDP parts ways with BJP

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has finally decided to part ways with the BJP after TDP's demand for a "special category status" for Andhra Pradesh was firmly denied by the Centre. TDP took the decision after finance minister Arun Jaitley omitted the demand in the general budget as well.

TDP decided to quit from the NDA alliance after their extensive talks with the Centre for a reversal in their stand had not fetched any result.

The TDP has been reportedly planning to seek a no-confidence vote in the parliament as well. They have 16 members out of 545 in the Lok Sabha and while their numbers may not cause concern for the BJP, it could, however, cause distant effects in the political equations.

Andhra Pradesh chief minister and the chairman of TDP Chandrababu Naidu said that the decision is not meant for any political gains but for the state only.

"I came to Delhi and met the concerned officials 29 times in the last 4 years for the betterment of my state. But there was not a single word for Andhra in the previous budget", he said.
