BJP won 9 out of the 10 Rajya Sabha seats in UP. The 10th seat was won by SP. This is expected to test the SP-BSP bonhomie as SP had promised Mayawati that it would help it win the 10th seat by transferring its surplus votes as part of the deal where BSP supported SP candidates to win the by-polls in Gorakhpur and Phulpur.

BJP won 8 Rajya Sabha seats, including for its senior leaders like Arun Jaitley, Anil Jain and GVL Narsimha Rao with 39 votes each. SP’s candidate Jaya Bachchan won the 9th seat with 38 votes while BSP’s candidate lost the 10th seat, with securing only 32 first preference votes instead of 37 needed. BJP MLA’s then voted for Agrawal as their second preference candidate due to which BSP did not win the seat once the voting went to second preference counting.
