Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly turned down Railway Minister Piyush Goyal’s plan to convert Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus into one of the first museum-cum-railway stations in India.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site was built over 100 years, starting in 1878 and was designed on the late medieval Italian models.

Goyal had announced his plan to convert the terminal into a museum during his visit there in November. However, PM Modi recently questioned the logic behind the project while also pointing out the lack of railway artefacts that could be showcased in the proposed museum.

The Railway Board was also against Goyal’s museum proposal, which could displace a lot of employees, difficult to accommodate them elsewhere as well.
