Himanshu Roy, Additional Director General of Maharashtra police and former chief of the Anti-Terror Squad of Maharashtra, ended his life by shooting himself at his residence in Malabar Hills, Mumbai.

He allegedly shot himself using his licensed revolver around 1.40pm Friday. He was rushed on to the hospital but brought dead.

The 1988 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer was battling with cancer and had been on medical leave for the last two years. People close with Himanshu Roy said that he was suffering from depression for some time now despite having treatment in India and in the foreign countries as well. The incident happened when his wife Bhavana was at his home whereas the police have found a one page suicide note from his home which states that no one was responsible for his death.

Himanshu Roy was a decorated figure in the Maharashtra police as he had investigated many big cases including the IPL spot fixing case in 2013, murder of lawyer Pallavi Purkayastha and the death of journalist J Dey. He was the one who unearthed the links of Chhota Rajan in the J Dey murder.'

Himanshu Roy was also a part of the investigation team that founded the role of American terrorist David Coleman Headley in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack.

Many of his colleagues were stunned on hearing his death news.
