After coming out victorious on an intense day of political battle against the BJP and their veteran leader BS Yeddyurappa himself, "kingmaker" HD Kumaraswamy will take oath as the new chief minister of Karnataka.

Yeddyurappa had resigned as the CM just before the trust vote in the assembly after he failed to get the support of 112 MLAs to cross the halfway mark. The BJP have 104 seats while the Congress and the JDS jointly have 117 MLAs, as per their claims.

Kumaraswamy met the governor Vajubhai Vala soon after Yeddyurappa decided to quit. The JDS leader had planned to conduct the swearing-in ceremony on Monday itself but changed later as the Congress were not in the line to conduct it on Monday as the death anniversary of former Prime Minister happened to be on the same day.

In the evening where the Assembly was getting ready for a trust vote, Yeddyurappa announced his resignation after a detailed speech.

"I travelled the entire Karnataka for the last two years. I cannot forget the love and support given by the people. People blessed us with giving 104 seats. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah made me the chief minister. Did you ever see the Prime Minister announce the chief minister candidate before the election? I became the party president in 2016. The Congress and the JDS lost in the election. The governor the invited the BJP as we are the single largest party", Yeddyurappa said.
