Mumbai Odia community celebrated Ganpati festival on 13th September with enthusiasm. Prominent members of the community including Arup Patnaik, former CP Mumbai, cardio thoracic surgeon Dr Ramakanta Panda, top private sector professional Shrijeet Mishra and others celebrated the festival with well over 2000 members.

Traditional Puja was performed, traditional odia food was served and a cultural program with Odia songs and Odissi dance was organised. Cooks from Jagannath temple, Puri had come all the way from Odisha to prepare traditional Odia food which was relished by the members in the traditional way of sitting down and serving one another.

Participation of Noted film and TV personalities such as Mona Singh (Jassi jaisi koi nahin and 3 idiots) Shivangi Atre ( Bhabhiji Ghar pe hain) Manav Gohil ( Kahaani ghar ghar ki, nach baliye, CID , tenali rama), Pankaj Berry ( crime patrol , peshwa baji rao) and Dilip Joshi ( Jethalal of taarak mehta ka ooltah chasmah) enriched the function.

The community felicitated noted neuro surgeon Dr BK Mishra who has been recently named for BC Roy National award which is the highest award in the country for medical professionals. Dr Harish Mohanty , one of Mumbai's seniormost odia Doctors, Bank of India Chairman Dinanandhu Mahapatra , Chairman Odisha Cultural Association Mumbai, Dr Srikrushna Patnaik and Arup Patnaik felicitated Dr BK Mishra for being named for the BC Roy award which will be awarded to him by President of India Ram Nath Kovind on July 1, 2019. Dr BK Mishra is the eldest son of famous economist of Odisha Professor Baidyanath Mishra. As a leading neurosurgeon, he has treated thousands of patients. Superstars Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan have been treated by him. Despite his name and fame he remains a simple and humble person for which the Odia community took pride in felicitating him.
