India declared their first innings on 443/7 in the first innings of the Boxing Day test in Melbourne that began yesterday. India declared the innings after Chetheswar Pujara recorded his seventeenth ton before dismissed for 106.

Australia began their reply with 8/0 at stumps on day 2 after surviving a fiery short spell from Jasprit Bumrah.

Earlier Virat Kohli (82) and Pujara shared a 173-run third wicket stand while Rahane stood firm for a gritty knock of 34. Later Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Panth scored some quick runs to take the team total to 443. Despite being toiled for days the Australian bowlers never allowed Indian batsmen to up the ante.

Anyway the track will excite the Indian bowlers the pitch already shows some tricks with variable bounce.
