Nine people have died and 41 are still missing after a landslide buried 30 houses in a village in Indonesia's West Java province, an official said Tuesday.

The Deutsche Presse-Agentur, DPA, quoted Sutopo Purwo Nugrohoa, a spokesman for Indonesia's Disaster Mitigation Agency, as saying, "The landslide hit Sirnaresmi village in Sukabumi district on Monday at 7:30 pm."

"As of 2.30 am, 107 people are affected by the landslide including the two who died and the 41 missing. There are three people injured and 61 displaced," Nugroho stated.

The local disaster management agency has dispatched rescuers to the location while locals are expected to resume search operations after it was halted overnight.

The evacuation process would require the use of heavy machinery but access to the village is hampered by heavy terrain, the official added.
