New Delhi: The contentious RTI amendment bill passed the Rajya Sabha obstacle on Thursday after sharp exchanges and subsequent Congress walk-out between representatives of the treasury and opposition benches.

The amendment by the representatives of the opposition to refer the bill to a selected panel was defeated with 75 votes in favor and 117 against it.

On Thursday, Upper House experienced interruptions in the proceedings following the motion by the Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions of the Union, Jitendra Singh, to amend the Right to Information Act, 2005 and to pass it.
