Srinagar:The Amarnath yatra finished 14 days before its planned closure on 15 August and the Jammu & Kashmir counter-insurgency grid was reinforced with the extra deployment of security  forces following the recovery of a big ammunition cache, a Pakistan-made anti-personnel mine and a U.S .- made sniper rifle along the yatra path, and intelligence reports highlighted the increased possibility of suicide bombing attacks in the Kashmir valley.

The cancelation of the yatra to one of the most sacred temples in Hinduism and an alert to pilgrims and visitors returning home resulted in panic and an air ticket scramble — the highway from Srinagar to Jammu is closed due to landslides — Although unsettled valley residents and increased speculation about a major offing move, perhaps the removal of Article 35A restricting certain advantages (such as public employment and land ownership) to permanent state citizens. Such speculation started last weekend with the deployment of 100companies of security forces (around 10,000 men)
