Pakistan expelled the Indian ambassador to Islamabad on Wednesday and announced a five-point plan to downgrade its relations with India and suspend bilateral trade in reaction to the government's move to end Jammu and Kashmir's unique status and divide it into two union territories. While Ajay Bisaria, the high commissioner of India, is in Islamabad, his Pakistani counterpart, Moin-ul-Haq, the high commissioner, is yet to take charge in New Delhi.

Islamabad, who has constantly sought global action on Kashmir, also said that he would appeal against the Kashmir government's choices to the United Nation Security Council. Recently, Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan thanked US President Donald Trump for providing mediation on Kashmir, an idea that India dismissed outright.
