Congressman and opposition leader in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, on his route to the Valley, was arrested on Thursday at Srinagar airport. The visit of Azad arrives days after the Center revoked the provisions of Article 370, which gave Jammu and Kashmir unique autonomous status and split the Himalayan state into two territories of the Union.
The member of the Rajya Sabha was accompanied by Ghulam Ahmed Mir, president of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress. Before leaving for Srinagar, in his comments on the pictures and videos of the interaction of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval with locals in the Shopian district of Kashmir, Azad said that "anyone can be brought with money."
On Wednesday, NSA Doval toured South Kashmir affected by militancy and was seen eating food outside closed stores on a footpath and speaking to local people. The images and videos on social media were viral.
