Srinagar: After five days of security lockdown in Jammu and Kashmir, phone and internet facilities have been partially restored this morning and movement constraints have been eased to enable prayers on Friday.

Thousands of security personnel remain positioned across the Kashmir Valley to watch out for any trouble following the centre's decision to end special status and turn the state into two union territories.

Jama Masjid's doors in Srinagar were closed, suggesting that prayers in the city's primary mosque were unlikely. In smaller mosques in the interiors, however, prayers would be permitted, said authorities, and enough staff had been posted to ensure order.

Restrictions can be further lowered if there is no trouble in the prayers, authorities said.
