In his home at Mylapore in Chennai, former Indian cricketer and Tamil Nadu opener, VB Chandrasekhar (57), was found dead and confirmed by police as a suicide. The family found him hanging from a ceiling fan late Thursday night, according to police. The body, recovered after breaking open the door, had been shifted to the Royapettah Government Hospital for autopsy. He had not left any suicide note, police said. Family sources said Chandrasekhar, who came up in the afternoon to his room after having tea in the house with others, did not come up for long and when they knocked at the door, it was locked from the inside. They saw him hanging from the ceiling fan when they opened the window. It was said earlier that he died of a heavy cardiac arrest. He had spent Rs 3 crore in the TNPL squad, VB Kanchi Veerans, he is in deep debt . He had even pledged his home as a guarantor, and the bank had lately issued a recovery notice and has since been depressed, "said an investigating official.

The BCCI and many former cricketers and current players have condoled the death.
