A Delhi court on Thursday sent Congress leader  P Chidambaram to judicial custody till September 19 in INX Media case.P Chidambaram applied to the Delhi Court for direction to guarantee secure detention while in judicial custody. Chidambaram also asked the jail officials to provide him with a separate cell, western toilet and medication.

A Bench of Justice R Banumathi and Justice AS Bopanna refused to extend protection from ED's detention to Chidambaram and indicated the provision of anticipatory bail at the inquiry level could frustrate the investigating agency in questioning the accused and gathering helpful data as well as "materials" that might have been "hidden away."

The apex court said that denying anticipatory bail would not amount to denying the appellant's privileges under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.
