The entry and exit gates of Maujpur-Babarpur metro station was closed following clashes between two protesting groups in Delhi. Clashes had broken out between groups opposing the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and those supporting it near Jaffrabad in northeast Delhi. To control the raging crowd Delhi Police fired tear gas shells as people pelted stones at each other.

Jaffrabad metro station was also closed earlier in the day as demonstrators, mostly women, blocked the road leading to the metro station. The women were demanding a rollback of the CAA. BJP leader Kapil Mishra had engineered crowds to throng the Maujpur traffic signal in support of the CAA. Taking to Twitter the BJP leader had written: “We have given a three-day ultimatum to the Delhi Police to get the road cleared. Get the Jaffrabad and Chandbagh road cleared.”

Mishra also put out a video saying that the protestors want to create trouble in Delhi and that’s why they have closed the roads and created a riot-like situation. We haven’t pelted stones on anyone.
